Kamindu Mendis Sets Cricket World Record

Kamindu Mendis, a hot young stud from Sri Lanka, has recently added a remarkable feather to his cap by accomplishing the fastest 1,000 runs in international cricket. It has created a lot of buzz in versus how significant such a record is, especially in a sport where crossing the 1000 run figure in international cricket is regarded as an important and likely a customary milestone inline for centuries or matches.

On July 22, Mendis, who is a rare ‘two-handed bowler’, has also shown his batting talents all over the facility. Since then, he has been able to play in different matches and amass the required number of 1,000 runs. Perhaps even more incredible is the fact that he did that in less number of matches than most of the greats in the sport including how most legends from Srilanka such Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and many more accomplish it.

Mendis’ innings before this record was under investigation and established how quickly he could assess the situation, how well he could change the strike and how ruthlessly bad balls would get punished. Even in tight situations where many aspiring youngsters crumble, he remained cool and helped him nurture the innings and then unfurl massive shots towards the end of the innings when required.

This achievement in his long throw is not only a mere display of his technical skills. This malleability towards the different pitches or conditions irrespective the formats of Test matches, One Day Internationals or T20s is a signature of a great cricketer. The fact that Kamindu Mendis is able to reach such a height of 1,000 runs in so little time is an indication of how fast he is going to be integrated into the team as one of the keystones of the batting order for many years.

After the retirement of many experienced and veteran players Sri Lankan cricket is in a rebuilding stage and the rise of Mendis as a batsman is a silver lining for the team's future. He is among the new breed of cricketers who posses ample amount of talent, but ‘more importantly’ are mentally strong enough to handle the rigors of international cricket.

Mendis is in the development stage and eyes will be on him on how well he makes use of the record breaking fitness. His dual skills of taking on the duties of a batsman and a bowler make him a valuable player, and this last achievement could indeed be just the beginning of a long and fruitful international career.
